2011 ANGFA Convention - Brisbane 21 - 23 October
The next ANGFA Convention will be held in Brisbane from 21 - 23 October 2011.
The venue will be Comfort Inn & Suites Robertson Gardens in Nathan (just south of the Brisbane CBD, near Griffith University).
This ANGFA Convention to be at least equal to, if not better than, those that have gone before. This is an occasion that you shouldn’t miss! We've learned from previous conventions and combined the best of each. For this one:
- there will be more time for socialising;
- the dinner and the auction will be on different nights;
- there will be a mix of fish, invertebrate, location, adventure, and plant content;
- there will be an emphasis on having fun, seeing old friends and meeting new ones:
- the auction will offer a mouth-watering array of fish and plants!
The theme of this convention will be: "Queensland and PNG". We aim to showcase the best of both those areas: the speakers, the locations, the fish, the plants, and the invertebrates.
The program is:
Fri 21 Oct: AGM and reunion drinks (evening activity only)
Sat 22 Oct: Day 1 of Convention, Convention Dinner in the evening
Sun 23 Oct: Day 2 of Convention, Convention Auction in the evening
24 -25 Oct: Post convention tours and fishing trips. Have you heard of any of the following: The Pine River? Tin Can Bay? Rainbow Beach? Kangaroo Ck? Snapper Ck? Searys Ck? We'll try to show you some of these legendary locations.
And for the non-fishing spouses, the weekend will be equally full.
So mark your diaries!! Apply for leave!! Turn down competing engagements!! Save for the entry fees!! Book the pets into the kennels!!
Full details will be supplied early in 2011.
There will be no excuse for missing this one. Be there, or be square!

2009 ANGFA Convention - Sydney 11-13, September
The Australia New Guinea Fishes Association (ANGFA NSW) in conjunction with ANGFA Incorporated (ANGFA National), are proud to present the world renowed ANGFA Convention.
This is the largest event focusing on Australian and New Guinea fishes anywhere in the fishkeeping realm.
The guest speaker line up is astounding, where you will hear and learn from experts coming from Australia and the around the globe.
The venue is the Courtyard by Marriott, Parrammatta and was chosen for its close proximity to Sydney. Parramatta City itself is a bustling metropolis, with shopping centres, restaurants and theatres amongst the many tourist attractions, even an aquarium shop!
If this is not enough, within walking distance of the venue, you can catch a rivercat ferry or a train to Sydney, then you can take in the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Aquarium, the Museums and interesting markets to browse.
Take this opportunity to attend the ANGFA convention, learn about fish, hear about fishkeeping, plants, new discoveries and see wonderful images of the areas where these were found.
It doesn't matter if you keep rainbows, gudgeons or gobies, angels, tetras or goldfish, in fact any type of fish or plants from anywhere, this is the convention that will set the standard for many years to come, we will see you there!
The price for entry into the convention will be $195AUD each for non-ANGFA attendees and $145AUD each for attendees with membership in ANGFA Inc. or any affiliated regional group.
More details about the convention, including on-line registration can be found at http://convention.angfa.org.au

A message from our Membership Officer:
I have had a chance to start catching up and am submitting this e-mail as the Membership Summary for ANGFA Incorporated for the calendar year ended 31st December 2007. Needless to say, at one of our committee meetings last year, we thought we might get close to the 500 barrier for the first time. Well, 2007 was a very strong year for ANGFA Inc. as we ended up with 488 members. This is a very strong result that compares favourably with previous calendar years as follows: 2004 - 366 2005 - 378 2006 - 433 2007 - 488 Interestingly, now that we have had a full year of "Dual Renewal" membership (joint renewal notices) with ANGFA VIC and ANGFA NSW, a surprisingly high 235 Australian members have opted to jointly renew both ANGFA Inc. and their local Regional group. This is only NSWs first year so were expecting an even higher number as more ANGFA NSW members take advantage of "Dual Renewal". Whilst Victorian and NSW membership has grown enormously (both over 100), it is also true that every Australian state & territory membership numbers recorded a significant increase. Qld is not far behind and we continue to be impressed with NT, ACT, WA, SA and even Tasmania. There is also growth in our overseas membership with Europe and North America virtually growing at the same pace. These are truly impressive membership numbers for what after all is only a small group of native fish enthusiasts run purely by volunteers. Feel free to pass on our compliments to everyone and anyone. Ive included a summary of the breakdown for 2007 to give you an idea of where our ANGFA members reside. Any questions, please dont hesitate to ask. Regards, Tony Tucceri Hon Treasurer & Membership Officer ANGFA Incorporated

An ANGFA Discussion forum (bulletin board) has been setup to facilitate improved communication amongst the dispersed ANGFA membership. The forum will allow the sharing of information & photos, asking questions & general discussions.
A number of subject headings have been setup, along with some initial posts to help things along. Those who have used on-line forums before may find the system familiar, as it is based upon phpBB software which is also used by a number of other aquarium & fish forums.
Anyone can register to gain access to the forum, but you need to be a current ANGFA member in order to gain full access. Being a registered "ANGFA Member" will allow full access to the forums & allow for posting.

ANGFA Convention 2007 UPDATE:
"Conservation through sustainable use of natural resources",
Darwin 8-10, June, 2007.
Just a quick update regarding the next ANGFA convention that will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel (please note our change in venue) in Darwin on the weekend of 8-10, June, 2007. The price for entry into the convention will be $150AUD each for non-ANGFA attendees and $130AUD each for attendees with membership in ANGFA Inc. or any affiliated regional group. Anyone wanting to attend may pre-pay by sending their details and the appropriate payment to the Treasurer. Please find our address on the membership page. You may also pre-pay through our on-line secure transaction facility (this will open a new window with an address in the digitalpacific.com.au domain; note: the security certificate for this site is not signed by any recognised authority). Fill in your credit card details, simply choose the "Other" option from the "Membership Costs" drop-down, and add your convention-related details in the "Comments" section. Attendees will also be able to register and pay on the day of the convention.
A limited number of rooms at the Crowne Plaza Hotel have been reserved by the organising committee, and rates have been confirmed for the accommodation. The rooms are $120AUD per night including complimentary breakfast. Interconnecting rooms are available at a different rate. These discounted rates will be honoured for those wanting to come early or stay late, pending availability. You can check out the rooms at http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/cp/1/en/hotel/DRWMS/welcome.
Booking your room can be done by phone, fax or email but you must mention the block code "ANG" in order to receive the special discounted rate. To book by phone, simply dial (08) 8901 0704 Monday through Friday between the hours of 9am and 5pm [Australian Central Standard Time (ACST) is equal to Greenwich Mean Time plus 9 1/2 hours (GMT +9 1/2)]. If you are doing your booking from outside Australia you will need to include the country code, which is 61. To book your room by fax, simply fax your booking to (08) 8980 0838. Or, if you prefer, email your booking to groups.nt@ichotelsgroup.com. Please note that you will need to provide credit card details to reserve your room and that emailing this information is not secure.
As we are now approximately 8 months away from the convention, it is time to think about booking your room. Since this will be the peak tourist season, rooms will fill up and sell out quickly. Obviously this is an ideal time to take a holiday in the NT, and some information is provided at www.travelnt.com.
We will have a wide range of speakers, as per our normal standards, and the weekend will be very relaxing. We are currently looking at various options for the traditional Saturday night dinner. Watch this space for more information.
